"《Lycoris Radiata / 友情》" is a graphic novel made collaboration between Richmond-based Chino Amobi and LA-based YAYA (Liu Light). The graphic novel intersects the "Eroica" universe originally envisioned by Amobi with YAYA's universe. It explores the life of an alien sent to earth that struggles to reconcile the different possibilities that coexist within an individual and the difficult decisions that must be made in order to pursue passions like art and love. About the authors:
YAYA 涯涯 is a multimedia catboy nihilist erotica post-anime visual artist based in LA.
They weave post-anime illustrations, animations, poetry, music, and performance into abstracted narratives about alienation, rage, grief, loss, selfhood, and the intimacy of violence. They also ride motorcycles and make delicious Chinese food.
Born from parents of Nigerian descent in the American south (b.1984, Tuscaloosa, Alabama), Richmond, Virginia-based Chino Amobi bridges the fields of contemporary art, electronic music, literature, film and fashion with experimental ease. Working across these platforms enhances the richness of each medium; indistinguishable, they dissolve together in unity within the exhibition space.
Amobi’s science fiction narrative, Eroica, a thriller in the Epic tradition, situated between history and myth, unfolds as a cinematic Gesamtkunstwerk: an immersive maximalist stage comprised of graphic flags, a light display, video projections, sculptural props, an overlapping sound work and a revolving cast of live performers.
